                - A trial lesson is a great way to try your hand at a musical instrument before enrolling in the study. At the trial lesson the teacher will tell you about the specifics of the instrument and sound production (if you are a beginner) and will help you find a comfortable posture for playing, select the repertoire for learning and give recommendations. As early as at the trial lesson, you or your child will be able to play 1-3 simple pieces, accompanied by the teacher. The school will provide you with an instrument for your trial lesson.

                Our cello teacher Heidi Rehnberg

Heidi started playing cello at the age of eight with Timo Hanhinen at Naantali Music School and continued her studies at the Turku Conservatory. She graduated from the St.Petersburg State Conservatory in 2001 as a Master of Arts in Music with Professor Sergey Roldugin. As a teacher, she has worked at the Länsi-Pirkanmaa Music Institute, Espoo Steiner School, Kainuu and Kuhmo Music Institutes. At the moment she is also a teacher of cello at Pitäjänmäki Music Institute. Heidi has played in many domestic and foreign orchestras, as the leader in L´Orchestre Symphonique du Theatre St. Michel (now called the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra), as the principal of the Zomeropera Orchestra, as the leader at the Lappeenranta Symphony Orchestra consert, in the Finnish-Estonian Symphony Orchestra, on Summer tour in Russia-European Orchestra as well as the leader at Metropolia’s Jevgeny Onegin production and in the coming Autumn as a principal in Sinfonietta Lentua. Heidi has been active in Finland and abroad (Russia, Belgium, Italy) in various chamber music ensembles. Heidi welcomes for her classes and also assist with instrument purchases. Try-out lessons are a great way to get to know the instrument!

                Cello Lessons

Children can start learning to play the cello as early as at the age of 5. Adults can learn to play the cello at Taidetöölö too at any age and level of proficiency in the instrument. There are cellos of an appropriate size for each age group. The instrument can be purchased from our partner “How Violins” (Mechelininkatu 28 B). You can trade in the cello for one of a larger size as the child grows.

A cello has a very beautiful, velvety, low sound. This is why it is often called a “poetic” or “romantic” instrument. Playing the cello is very popular in Finland, and the cellists from the country are well-known throughout the world.

At the first cello lessons, a student gets acquainted with the instrument and its specifics. Then they learn to use their right hand and left hand separately. As early as at the trial lesson, the student will be able to perform a simple piece accompanied by the teacher. Learning to play the cello promotes the development of fine motor skills and technique, coordination, develops an ear for music and a sense of rhythm. At Taidetöölö, the cello is one of the most popular instruments, and our teacher Heidi Rehnberg gives great cello lessons. Her teaching style helps students grasp the material and achieve good results at every lesson.

                by Zena I. on Taidetöölö

Our 3-year old daughter has been learning piano with Irina, and we couldn’t be happier! She is the perfect type of teacher — patient, encouraging and creative — to help our child learn and keep her interest going. A lot of theory and practice goes into a seemingly short 20-minute lesson, but this is the perfect amount of time for a kid this age. We’re grateful for Irina’s ability to cultivate our child’s interest in learning a musical instrument, and look forward to her attending Taidetöölö well into the future.

We enjoy lessons every times! Our daughter is quite young, but Irina could have devised how she like and is interested in the piano: doing many things in a lesson for keeping her concentration, and repeatedly practicing a bit difficult tasks. The lesson is good to get skills for piano and also for developing her intelligence.

                by Alina Saaristo on Taidetöölö

Irinan taitavan ohjauksen alla heräsi uuteen eloon uskoni, että voisin vielä aikuisenakin kehittää joskus lapsuudessa hankittua vähäistä pianon soittamisen taitoani. Pääsin harjoittelemaan omaan tahtiin, joustavasti omassa aikataulussa ja sain juuri tarvittavan määrän opastusta, jotta pääsisin omaan sen hetkiseen tavoitteeseeni. Käytännön harjoituksen rinnalla Irina ei unohda myöskään musiikin teoriaa, jota annostelee sopivin määrin sen tullessa esiin.

As an adult student (now in beginning violin), I have taken many lessons in my life with lots of teachers. Natalia is my first music teacher, and she is one of the best teachers I have met. She is really good at knowing exactly what kinds of exercises I need to progress and to stay motivated. And when I am slow at understanding certain concepts or at being able to replicate certain finger positions or bow movements, she always comes up with creative and personal ways to explain and help me get it. That’s a real gift. Plus, she and Irina (and everyone at Taidetöölö) are just really nice people to work with!

Kiitos ihanasta ja selkeästä opetustavasta Irina! Mielestäni (ja varmasti myös lasten mielestä) olet lämmin, ymmärtäväinen, taitava ja sopivia tavoitteita lapsille antava opettaja. Jatka samaan malliin.
