Cello Lessons for children and adults of any age and level

A trial lesson is a great way to try your hand at a musical instrument before enrolling in the study. At the trial lesson the teacher will tell you about the specifics of the instrument and sound production (if you are a beginner) and will help you find a comfortable posture for playing, select the repertoire for learning and give recommendations. As early as at the trial lesson, you or your child will be able to play 1-3 simple pieces, accompanied by the teacher. The school will provide you with an instrument for your trial lesson.

At the first cello lessons, a student gets acquainted with the instrument and its specifics. Then they learn to use their right hand and left hand separately. As early as at the trial lesson, the student will be able to perform a simple piece accompanied by the teacher. Learning to play the cello promotes the development of fine motor skills and technique, coordination, develops an ear for music and a sense of rhythm. At Taidetöölö, the cello is one of the most popular instruments, and our teacher Heidi Rehnberg gives great cello lessons. Her teaching style helps students grasp the material and achieve good results at every lesson.

Children can start learning to play the cello as early as at the age of 5. Adults can learn to play the cello at Taidetöölö too at any age and level of proficiency in the instrument. There are cellos of an appropriate size for each age group. The instrument can be purchased from our partner “How Violins” (Mechelininkatu 28 B). You can trade in the cello for one of a larger size as the child grows.

A cello has a very beautiful, velvety, low sound. This is why it is often called a “poetic” or “romantic” instrument. Playing the cello is very popular in Finland, and the cellists from the country are well-known throughout the world.
